When I read this quote I instantly thought of my young second grade writers who truly have hearts that brim with stories to tell. The economy in our area has taken a tremendous hit as it has in many places. Despite facing extreme financial troubles at home my students come to school eager to learn each and every day. Unfortunately the high poverty in our area means that many of my students come from homes that are not rich with literacy materials. This certainly is not due to a lack of interest or desire on the part of their families. It is simply the choice they must make as they provide the best that they can for their families basic needs, food and shelter.
My Project
My students are writers. Each day they spend a significant amount of time writing in our classroom. My students have really taken ownership of their learning during our literacy block and need more tools to help them. The materials I have chosen, such as Build-A-Paragraph flip books and Build-A-Story flip books will allow them to continue to progress at their own levels, enhance their love to write and help them to be more proficient at it. These materials not only help them build their foundation of writing properly, they also tap into the stories that are in their hearts and imaginations. Please help me to provide my students with these engaging materials so that I can continue to support their love for writing.
All of the materials that I have chosen for this project are non-consumable.
Not only will they help this group of second grade students but many others for years to come. Writing is still one of the most critical forms of communication we have. Please help me to help my students become proficient, inspired writers.
