My Students
Do you remember writing for an unknown audience and not knowing why you were writing? Wouldn't it have been better if you new why and for whom you were writing. My students want to write for real purpose and for authentic audience.
I have 150 students a day who range from freshmen to seniors.
There are 1470 students who attend our traditional high school. Our school lacks in the technology available to our students. There are only three computer labs that are shared among those 1400 students. Other than the computer labs, students do not have access to any other technology in the school.
My Project
Using the iPad, students can create iBooks of their writing. The iPad will used for a creative project that connects the current generation with those of a different generation through interviewing, narrative writing and publishing. Students will interview a family member or member of the community (using the video feature on the iPad) about a relationship they deem to be successful or important in that person's life. Through the use of mentor texts, students will write a narrative of the relationship that they will publish as an iBook. The iBook will be published on the class website and a copy will be gifted to the interviewee.
Not only are students going to use the iPad to create published pieces of writing but they will also be able to share their writing with an authentic audience.
In addition, the iPad is extremely versatile and can be used for everyday learning and other projects.
