Our Head Start classroom is full of 18 kind, caring, eager to learn individuals. Each day we are scientists, mathematicians, musicians, readers, creators, and much more.
My students have big dreams, including being a doctor, a teacher, and a professional hockey player.
Despite coming from low socioeconomic backgrounds and having a myriad of different learning styles, my students come together each day to achieve personal goals and celebrate the success of their peers. One of the best things about our classroom is the sense of community each child feels when we meet each day.
My Project
Being able to explore and create with art materials is an important part of a child's development. Art is not only fun but also develops skills such as patterning, cause and effect, spatial reasoning, pencil grip, and vocabulary. Having open-ended art experiences at school allows the students to create masterpieces that they can be proud of; thus, these materials will help my students to develop positive feelings about going to school while also strengthening fine motor and creative talents.
In my classroom, I can provide a safe place to use paint, glue, glitter, markers, and many other "messy" art materials.
Many of my students lack drawing and writing materials at home. By having access to markers, paint, scissors, paper, glue, and play dough tools at school, my students will have the opportunity to develop many important skills that will help them to be successful in Kindergarten and beyond.
