My Students

Our students are proud members of our very small pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade school, located East of Oklahoma City. This year, the school is offering a music and band program for the first time! Our students have had a great start to the year and are really enjoying their music classes.

We are a Provision 2 school and many of our students come from low-income families.

While we know our students will be excited to take part in our music program, we know that their families will not be able to purchase or rent instruments on their own. Regardless, we want every student to be able to take part in our program. We are hoping students will learn musical skills, work as a team and cultivate a life-long appreciation for the arts.

My Project

Having access to a xylophone will allow my students to further and deepen their musical study.

A xylophone would be utilized in a variety of ways in our classroom.

Students will be able to continue to explore melody, something that we begun in the previous school year. However, for the first time they will be able to explore, play and create harmonies to accompany songs, chants and poems performed in class. Our xylophone will also be used for a variety of composition and improvisation projects in our room, allowing our student musicians the opportunity to create their own music, giving them a unique opportunity for self-expression!
