Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

ASB stands for Associated Student Body. It is comprised of a group of students who were chosen by both teachers and the departing 8th grade members to be leaders at our school.

The students in ASB work hard planning lunch events and dances, working at the student store, and building school spirit.

They don't get to partake in these fun events because they are the ones running the show! They work tirelessly before school, during school, and after school to make sure all events and responsibilities are taken care of. We are at a Title I school, which means all students qualify for free lunch. As the governing student body, the ASB students try to encourage others to work hard by having events to reward other students through a program called Student of the Month. They also plan a spirit week to help students have some fun while learning.

My Project

First of all, students will need to choose the executive council, that is, the president, vice president, etc. To do so, we will be recording their speeches to play to the entire school. In previous years, we had to resort to using cell phones and the quality was not that great. Not all students have cell phones, so it would be nice to have a camera that belonged to us as a group. We also make a certificate for each student chosen for student of the month where we would like to include their picture. We would also use the camera to help us capture memories from our events for the yearbook. We also would like a photo booth at dances and would need a camera with a memory card for it. All ASB events are advertised through flyers and posters. Right now, we are printing them in black and white and then coloring it in with markers. It would be nice if the students could design the flyers on a computer and print it out in color. We also make certificates for students.

It is not enough for students to just go to school and learn.

Without the work done by ASB, school would be a very boring place for students. ASB works diligently to promote school spirit and to create opportunities for positive reinforcement. They will be able to learn more about graphic design and photography. They will also pick up skills that they can use in the future. These materials will not only benefit the students in ASB, but it will benefit the school as a whole. Thank you!
