Ms. Grell from Brooklyn NY is requesting art supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

As Seen By Others, A Self Portrait!

My students need the Winsor and Newton oil paints for beginners using technique used by Seurat. We also need folding easels, calligraphy markers, and art paper. All of these supplies are necessary for the success of this project.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

The young people that I serve range in age from 17 through 21. Most of them are disenfranchised youth trying to get their high school equivalency diploma. Some are working through their legal issues, while trying to complete their education. Others are young parents or living with their families in shelters.

The goal of this project is to help them tap into their many talents and build their self- esteem as learners.

They can understand that learning happens outside school.

My Project

Using the technique of pointillism will introduce students to the world of impressionism. George Seurat works of art will be a great tool to impress students with. Using the supplies requested we will be able to help the students appreciate portraits and how they are created.

This will allow the students to continue their learning outside of a traditional classroom.

Students will then be able to appreciate art and use this newfound appreciation to help with their school success.

These projects will allow the students to be reflective in their lives and with all they encounter. They will be able to paint themselves as they are seen by others.
