Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a Title I school in a major city and a lot of our students come from difficult home lives. It's a high poverty area, and this year our school budget has been cut severely. We need your help!
We are one of the few schools in the area that has a strong art program, and I am so grateful for it.
Over the past six years that I have been here, I have seen more and more students turn to art as a form of expression. These students love art, and I think it's important to keep that love growing.
My Project
I love our school but one thing we do not have is a library. Students spend a lot of their day looking at a Chromebooks in class and a cell phone at home. That is why when I saw a student extremely excited about reading a graphic novel in class I had an idea: I'll start my own library!
I think it's important for students to see that there are professional artists whose job it is to create such wonderful books.
So I have set up a small library in the Art Room for students to check out graphic novels and take them home. I can not believe how huge of a hit it has been! My bookcase is usually empty because so many students want to check them out. That is why I am asking you for help so we can have more books!
