My students come from a very diverse background. Many students do not have the bare necessities such as water, food or electricity. At my school, one hundred percent of students receive a free lunch and breakfast. We also provide holiday dinners for sixty to seventy of our families each year, coats for the children in the winter, school supplies in the fall, and arrangements are made so that the students will have meals during the summer as well. My elementary school goes above and beyond when it comes to taking care of their basic needs. We have a fantastic team of staff members that strive to meet their academic needs everyday as well.
My Project
As a teacher, I pay for a lot of the art supplies we use in my classroom each year. I love to do art projects throughout the year, but many of my students do not always come to school with the essentials: glue, markers, scissors, etc. I am hoping to be able to provide these supplies for my students without having to dip into my own bank account every year. I love to teach my kids how to paint, how to draw and to express their own individuality through their art projects.
I love to integrate art into other curriculum areas so that students can showcase their knowledge through art.
We just finished making dioramas to show off the different parts of an ecosystem, and while they turned out fabulously...they significantly depleted my art supplies. In order to be able to continue to do these fun art projects for the next few years I am going to need to replenish my stash of markers, Play Doh, and glue.
