My Students

My students are from a public inner-city 7th & 8th-grade middle school. Some of my students are considered "Life Skills" and for a variety of reasons they are simply working on existing in the world around them safely and happily. For these students, the Art Room is a choice-based space, which gives them the ability to find something they are interested in and allows for some really deep learning!

The Art Room is a space where every student's talents and abilities are validated and cherished!

The ability to use high-quality materials, which would otherwise be impossible to procure, really inspires my students.

My Project

These supplies will help my most challenged students engage in Art Class in a way that fosters fun and creativity. These manipulatives, such as LEGO, Building Blocks, and Pattern Blocks encourage students to explore and refine their fine motor skills. The sensory materials, such as Sensory Sand, Scented Playdough, and Sensory Beads will engage my students whose needs are tactile. The Adaptive materials, such as Design Rollers, Dab Paints, and Oil Pastels will allow my students to engage with painting as they work to improve their fine motor skills.

These unique materials will allow my students to express their creativity and explore in ways that traditional materials can't.

While being fun, these "play" materials ultimately lead to great learning and greater discoveries for students.

For my students with physical disabilities, these materials allow them to explore the arts in ways my classroom currently can't provide. It is imperative that we meet all students "where they are", and these hands-on, sensory, and adaptive materials do just that for my students with special needs.
