Ms. Gannon SLP from South Holland IL is requesting art supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help us get these materials to help give art to our students. They have no structured art program, so these materials will help them create art for self expression, as well as school wide art projects.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
The students in the classrooms that will be a part of this project are all exceptionally unique. No child is alike and they each learn and express themselves in a variety of ways. Some talk to communicate and tell you their bright ideas and dreams, where other students are unable to speak, but communicate their wants and needs through other means. Each of them has a story to tell and they all want the world to know what they have to say.
Therapy and teaching that implements visuals and tactile objects are used everyday in the educational process in our schools program. The students in this program have have significant limitations in intellectual functioning such as expression and comprehension and adaptive behaviors such as social skills, conceptual skills, verbal skills, and practical skills.
Using art, music and other interactive teaching methods can help aid in their learning process and can also help these students in their everyday lives. Art uses self expression, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, and can enhance communication and collaboration in the students daily lives. Music can help express their personality and help their verbal expression and increase their language. The students would love this opportunity and would love to be able to experience having the arts implemented more frequently!
Michael: I want to be able to make art for the school plays and for me to take home to show my family. It would be fun. We can work together and make things for everyone to see and put them around the school to decorate it. I want to show everyone our art!
Kiari: I like to draw. If we had art class or art supplies to use I can help my friends learn how to draw and show them how much fun it is. I am in the school plays and I want all of my friends to be in it too and making art can help them all be in it.
Keyonte: This will help us be able to make art for our school plays and help kids who can't talk or sing be a part of the play. I love music and the drums and I want other kids to do what they like and be in the play too.
