Hickory Tavern Elementary's 9th annual Arts Day is being planned for April 7, 2006. On this day, I arrange for volunteer artists from our community and surrounding areas to demonstrate their art forms (visual art, dance, theater, music) to our students. All students in our elementary school get to participate in this free "in-house" field trip. Many of our students come from families who did not participate in any arts activities outside of the school. Arts Day is a way to expose our students to as many different arts forms as possible--many of which they are not exposed to in our school. This event has become something that our students AND teachers look forward to every year. Along with our volunteers, I also contract 2 paid performers to be our "main attractions." This year I plan to bring Porkchop Productions from Aiken, SC to our school. I appreciate your consideration in my request for funding and hope that you will find our Arts Day to be a worthy cause.
