My Students
There is never a dull moment in our room. Walk in and you will find general ed, special ed and English language learner students all learning and thriving together. We are constantly finding more opportunities to learn from one another and reflect on our own work.
My students attend a full-inclusion low-income urban school where all students qualify for free meals.
The boys and girls come from many different backgrounds and are in a unique environment that allows students with special needs to learn alongside their typically developing peers.
Most of my students are faced with challenges every day. However, they come to school happy and eager to learn. These children are given the opportunity to become leaders in their own classroom and models for their peers as they take ownership of all that happens in the classroom. The students are extremely proud of their work and their leader status. I hear them talking about it with their classmates, and I've had several parents happily repeat this to me. It is a joy to be a part of their lives.
My Project
In the upcoming school year, our district is proposing either a hybrid model or fully remote learning for students. This project serves to get students basic art supplies such as paint, paper, glue sticks, popsicle sticks and other materials that will allow them to create puppets, homes, oceans, gardens, animals and use the vocabulary they're learning in their unit themes. For example, in our first unit - Family, students can use the art supplies to create visual representations of their home lives and family members!
PreK students still need to be able to learn in a play-based environment and use art and visual representation as a way to share their thinking.
This project would allow my students equal access and opportunity to create and explain their thinking and learning! Any help you can provide would really impact my students ability to engage with learning from their homes.
