Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in an integrated classroom where students of all abilities, both in general and special education, learn and work together to achieve success. Throughout the day, we focus on differentiated teaching in small groups to meet the needs of all learners, and we are always striving for new ways to interest and excite them as they learn. My students give their best every day, but coming from a low SES neighborhood, their families may struggle to provide for them.
The majority of students in our Title I school receive free breakfast and lunch, but the growing brains of these bright students often need a boost.
Please help us provide healthy mid-day snacks and fun art supplies for our classroom.
My Project
Having a stash of non-perishable healthy snacks that are allergen-free will be a great help. Countless times, a student who may seem upset, ill, or unmotivated to begin the day often explains, "I'm just hungry" when asked what is troubling them. We would like to have these healthy snacks on hand for just such occasions... or for class celebrations! In addition, our school often lacks full funding for the arts, and we love to provide additional opportunities for our students to work creatively. The supplies requested will be used by our students at the end of each of their integrated writing and Science/Social Studies units to create dioramas, murals, models, and more! For example, our first project will be to work collaboratively to create giant 3d murals of the different types of communities and their features. Tissue paper squares and pom-poms can be used to make landscapes with trees and bushes and wiki-sticks and foam shapes can be used to build structures and buildings in our murals and dioramas. In addition, we supplies like brush-top glue bottles, popsicle sticks, and pipe cleaners to help design prototype solutions for erosion such as dams and retaining walls.
Your contribution to our project will help us provide healthy snacks to those in need as well as a plethora of opportunities for students to create their own masterpieces and express their knowledge in unique ways.
