In kindergarten we love to use our hands to make things. The art table is a favorite spot in the room and is full of conversation and creativity.
My children are bright, beautiful and full of ideas.
We are in a PreK- K building of near 400 children in an inner city environment. Most of my children are free lunch and low income. As school budgets are cut, so are art supplies. However, 5 year olds need so much to use their hands and minds together to express themselves.
My Project
We are quickly running out of beads and feathers for projects which enhance our literature. The colored paper supplied to us is thin and does not hold up well for the crafts and cards the students make as gifts. The tagboard and cardstock, as well as colored pencils and the stickers, will make a huge difference. I have asked for squishy foam and diffusing paper to really "up" the creativity and excitement.
Art is such an important way to focus the mind and fine motor skills in the young.
It is a subject we cannot afford to take from the children. It is truly essential for their development across the board. I hope you can help us keep art in our hearts.
