I work with some amazing students with autism or similar disabilities. Their disabilities impact them all in different ways. Some use devices to communicate and others are able to express themselves verbally. They are all impacted in some way socially with varies levels in self help skills.
Our school is a k-5 elementary school with students from various locations who live locally or are bused in.
They are from various socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. There is also a range of grades in my class.
My Project
I am a new teacher and it is very difficult to find the time to create art materials. I would love items such as the play dough, art scratch paper and people shapes art to have prepared art projects that are easy for my students to learn. I would also love the Phonemic awareness activities to help my students learn to read in a simple organized way that is interactive. I want my students to be able to express themselves through art, but it is difficult with so much going on to create projects that interest them. They will learn following directions and matching and hopefully can take what we give them and make it their own.
My students also learn differently, and the materials requested will help them stay interested in what they are learning.
The materials are all interactive and involve them moving and manipulating. They will love having access to them.
