Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach art in an urban charter school in New York. I teach both elementary and middle school grades. This is the first year I have had a classroom to teach in and I finally have a space to put equipment.
Right now, my classroom has no equipment, I have the budget to buy supplies, but there is never any money left over for expensive equipment.
I need a really sturdy paper cutter for cutting paper for the elementary art projects, a drying rack for student art work. Since I teach all our students I need a space for all their work to dry if we are going to use any wet media. I also need irons for our batic and tie-dye projects, and a digital camera to document their work for their portfolios which they submit for their end of the year reviews. These are very practical needs but they are really important for our success in the classroom.
Your help will ensure my students have opportunities to make art without roadblocks. These may not be 'exciting' supplies but they support the success of the art-making process in really important ways on an everyday basis. With your donation you will make a difference in what we can do as an art classroom, but also you will be supporting an underfunded charter school live up to it's potential.
