My Students

My high school art students are a highly motivated group of kids that come from a large urban environment. They travel up to two hours each day on public transportation to get to and from school, and then spend hours after school involved in sports, ethnic clubs, honors societies, student government, and working part-time jobs. My Honors Painting students come to class with a range of art experience, but with an eagerness to get their hands dirty and learn how to paint.

My Project

My students have their basic painting skills down, so now they are ready for large-scale projects. For their second semester, students will complete landscapes and social justice artworks. They will also work collaboratively to create a school-beautification mural installation.

With 120 students painting every day, materials tend to get worn down or misplaced.

We need new 10-well palettes with lids to use for acrylic paint. We need additional plastic palettes to use for watercolors.

These new palettes will increase efficiency in the classroom. The palette lids will also reduce waste, as students can store their paints for up to weeks at a time!
