Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students always look forward to art class. They always look forward to creating and just using that part of their brain that they don't get to use as often as they would like. I try to offer my students as many new experiences as possible. They are enthusiastic learners who are interested in trying new and different art media, learning about new artists (especially those they can relate to), and just being exposed to different artwork.
One of my biggest goals in teaching art is to show my students that you don't need to have a natural ability to make art and that it is truly about learning new skills and developing them.
I also strive to show my students that visual art is a language that should they choose, will allow them to express their ideas and beliefs in a different way.
My Project
A child's imagination has only the limits that are set upon it. Help my students unlock their creative potential! To have an art education program you must have basic art supplies. This is my first year teaching at a high needs school in New York City and upon coming into the school, there were no basic art supplies. Through generous donations I’ve been able to supply my students with supplies needed up to this point in the school year, but we are running extremely low on all of our basic art supplies. My students, despite difficulties outside of school, come in every day eager to learn. It is my job to ensure they have the supplies they need to have a quality art education program. I am requesting paint palettes, brushes and sponges so that my students can fully express their creativity and create masterpieces! I am also asking for wipes and paper towels so that we can keep the art room clean after our projects.
