Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We have some of the most creative, artistic, and inspiring students around. Our students live on the Lower East Side but have roots from around the world—China, Bangladesh, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic—just to name a few. We are an exciting bunch! Many of our students are working on learning a second language. Our school has a dual language program for Mandarin and Spanish. The diversity in our students makes for an exciting learning environment for all, especially in the virtual art room.
Despite the hardships my students face with school being closed, they continue to amaze me.
My students remain eager to learn about art in spite of the fact that a vast majority of them live in the areas in NYC that have been heavily impacted by COVID-19. Over the past three months in the virtual art room, my students and I have had amazing art talks, taken fun virtual trips to museums, and made lots of art pieces using household items. My students and their families remind me daily of the importance of looking for beauty and joy as we navigate our way through these unprecedented times together.
My Project
I would like to continue to support my students' learning and creative expression this summer by sending home art supplies. We are a Title I school. Many of my students' families have endured financial hardship due to Covid-19. As a result, purchasing art supplies for the summer may not be a possibility.

The art supplies that your donation will purchase will allow my students to take a break from the pandemic this summer and explore their imagination through their art-making. It will give them the opportunity to create and have fun...perfect activities for the summertime.
