Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students attend a public K-8 school in an impoverished area. Many struggle to make ends meet and appreciate the free breakfast and lunches available to all students.
My students come to school excited to learn everyday.
They are part of a school community that supports practice and effort to improve ourselves and our lives. Our school motto is awesome takes practice. Through hard work and practice, my students continue to grow their understanding and experiences.
Most of their education is the basics. Most of the extra and enrichment has been cut back to almost nothing. I need to provide my students with both, to help them realize their potential. My students are so used to watching movies and playing games made by others and buying into someone else's imagination, they don't know how to use their own. I want them to find and develop their own ingenuity and vision.
My Project
My students love art and I love to help them express their feelings and imaginations with many different projects. Giving students multiple mediums to work with allows students to try to express themselves in a variety of ways.
Tempra cakes will allow students to paint even when time is short.
During the one hour of art that students have some are quick and some are meticulous and slow. The ease of set up and clean up makes it possible for students to continue their projects during the 20 minutes of recess or lunch, giving students that extra time they need and want to hone their artworks. I love to use tempra cakes because colors dry so much brighter and give art a different look that some students want.
Construction Paper Crayons are special crayons that give brighter colors when coloring on dark construction paper. It is boring and predictable to always work on white paper. working on a dark blue paper for a night sky can make artwork pop with these special crayons.
