In one week, I teach 430 students in grades K-6 a visual arts education. My goal is to connect the ARTS to the world, teaching across curriculum's, so they see the place that ART plays in life. "It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge."
Albert Einstein
My students are eager, creative and love exploring the Visual Arts through a variety of media, as they discover cross curriculum connections and understand the passion and beauty of ART.
They come into the ART room, always so excited, ready to discover, explore and create. My 6th graders will be the 1st group to explore ART in a 3D capacity, creating I'm sure, quite a stir with the rest of the school. All the students will be so excited to try out the 3D printer when they are in the 6th grade. Wow! What an experience that will be!
My Project
The 6th grade students will explore the possibilities of the 3D printer as they create a drawing that will lend itself to explore the concepts of both shape and form. Our ART lessons are always based on the Elements of ART and the Principles of Design. They are presently exploring one point perspective and know that they are drawing on a 2D surface, but trying to create a 3D drawing, tricking the eye. Can you imagine their excitement when they draw a building in one point perspective, and it comes out of the printer in 3 dimensions! I can hardly imagine it myself, so I can only imagine how excited my students will be!
The technological world is changing so quickly, and our students are ready and capable.
Educators must continue to support our students and discover opportunities like this that will help our students be 21st century learners. This 3D printer will surely bring a new, higher level of creative exploration for my students and their comprehension of both shape, form, 2D and 3D. So exciting! So creative! So 21st century!
