Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students attend a Title I school, they receive free or reduced priced meals, and they come from extremely challenging backgrounds. In addition to the economic limitations they face, my students are also all learning to speak and read English as their second language.
Despite all of the adversity they face, my students come to school each and every day with a smile on their face and a love for learning that you can see from the look in their eyes.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of Lego sets, many different colors of paper, and tempera paint sticks for my incredibly creative Kindergarteners. All of these materials will be used each and every day during developmental centers. This is a time at the end of the day where students get to build with Legos, paint, put puzzles together, etc. By far, my students this year spend the most time playing with Legos and painting.
Unfortunately, we have already used our yearly allotment of paper, and our Lego table could use some serious replenishing.
These supplies may seem like simple classroom materials, but they help students develop essential social skills, students learn how to share when they want to use the same color paint that someone is already using. They learn how to work together when they are constructing a Lego house, and they learn how to lead others when they have "drawing classes" where one student teaches others how to draw a particular picture (usually a unicorn!).
The Legos will be added to our pre-existing Lego table, students play with them every day and use them to build and create their own worlds. The paper will be used every day, not only for painting, but for cutting and fine motor practice, and during craft time. The paint sticks will be used each and every day both during free play time where students can paint whatever they like, and to integrate art into the reading, math, and science blocks of our class as often as possible. Thank you SO much for taking the time to read about my incredible class! If you can, please consider donating and sharing my project!!
