My second graders come to school full of energy and ready to conquer the world. My job is to keep them motivated and to develop critical thinkers. Each child learns differently, and part of my job is to find out how to reach them. Some are visual learners, some are auditory learners, and some learn by hands-on activities.
We need to figure out how to reach all learners.
My students are sweet and eager to learn. They are motivated and want to be successful students. They just need the opportunity.
My Project
As a teacher, I face the challenge each year of creating a classroom family of twenty diverse and interesting characters. We start by assigning each student a table. The table then gets to choose their mascot's name. They then use the paint and cardstock to create a poster of the mascot using adjectives to describe the mascot. In order to accomplish this feat, each table must work together to create this mascot. They then earn points based on their behavior. They earn lunch with the teacher and other fun activities. They take pride in their work and they make sure their mascot is well taken care of in order to survive the year,
