Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I provide speech-language therapy in a Title 1 elementary school, that serves students from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and languages. Each year, I have roughly 50 students on my therapy caseload. My students work so hard towards their speech and language goals and objectives! To make our sessions engaging and literacy-based, I love being able to incorporate books.
The articulation books requested in this project will allow us to have literacy items that contain students' target phonemes.
These phoneme-specific books will help my speech therapy students practice their target phonemes at the reading/short-story level. This will promote carryover! Carryover of their skills to other settings (classroom, home, etc.) is crucial to success for students with communication needs. These books, such as "Stephanie's Spectacular Aquarium Visit, Lily, Lana, and the Exploricorn, as well as others listed, will help my students become better communicators and more productive citizens.
