This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As we grapple with the vestiges of the pandemic, there are certain activities, practices, and habits of mind that we have found to be therapeutic and educational. Project-based learning that incorporates art-wellness, intentionality, and mindfulness has been doing wonders inside the classroom.

This generation of students has been raised in front of screens.

Whenever challenged with creative activities there is an initial panic. However, once the moment has passed, and children are guided, they create beautiful works of art that connect history and their lived experiences. For our unit on the Enlightenment, the students chose a favorite Enlightenment philosopher and recited a text, and created a collage that modernized the concepts and ideas found within the recitation. They are beautiful works of art that connect history and modern identity.

We are asking for these supplies for the students to write and create historical journals and for other project-based activities as we move into the 20th and 21st centuries in our Global History and AP World History classes. With your generosity and support, we will have an artistic and empowering spring as we ready for important formative assessments.
