My students have a desire for art, they do not receive any art instruction. I have to come up with ways to incorporate art into my classroom. We have an extended day, where we focus on math, reading, science, and social studies, as well as fitness.
I have sixteen students, they mostly come from low income homes, and our school is 84% free lunch.
We have slowly been building our classroom into an effective and engaging classroom. They are always excited to try new things in the classroom.
My students have a passion for art and are so excited when we do crafts. We do not have an Art teacher at our school, so I have to implement Art into my lessons. That is why we need this grant from the Lily Sarah Grace Fund.
My Project
We will be using our materials to build on a huge product for the end of the year. We are requesting that we receive sketching pads and sketching pencils to start with the textures that can be created with lines. We will create tires, trees, cones, and so much more to learn that lines can show distance and also show texture within a drawing. We will practice our painting skills before we open up the idea of acrylics, that is why we need some gallons of paint. The paint was only for primary and secondary colors because we are going to learn how colors blend together to make new colors, such as purple can be created by using red and blue. We have the canvas to complete as our final art piece.
We are requesting a shelf to create an Art Center in our classroom.
This project will be a beneficial one for all my students.
These students will grow an understanding for art, they will be apply the skills they have learned within their final project, the canvas.
My students will have to trigger prior knowledge and challenge themselves to create mini masterpieces. This will show my students how important art skills are and how to apply them.
