My Students
Every day, I have the joy of creating memories of success, failure, and perseverance while teaching kindergartners the joys of learning.
My kindergartners want to be the best that they can, yet our state is 51st in school funding.
We are a Title I school, where everyone receives free breakfast and most receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students come from trauma-filled backgrounds, low-income families, and will be the first to go to college. Despite these struggles, my five-year-old scholars are still inquisitive. They are full of questions, from the iconic "Why is the sky blue?" to the question I was asked the other day, "Why do apples come in different colors?" I want my students to further their curiosity by learning how to read, write, do math, and be knowledgeable about the world. Furthermore, I want them to go home and share their learning with their families.
My Project
Even though we are returning to remote-only learning, my kindergarten students will still have the opportunity to experience art.
Either at home or school, the requested art trays will allow my students to be creative artists, but without a giant mess to clean up afterwards.
When we are in session in our classroom, we have carpet (in a kindergarten room!) that is already stained with playdough, paint, and who knows what else. The requested trays will keep our room looking a little cleaner. The trays also stack, which is critical when I have 24 artists and no drying rack.
