My Students
Each day, my students face challenges, before they enter the school building, ranging from extreme poverty, single-parent households, where the parent works multiple jobs, students with incarcerated parents, and many students who live in shelters.
Despite these challenges, my students come to school each day, and I do my best to provide an emotionally, supportive environment to foster academic success.
Having a art projects to do art therapy sessions with small groups and individual sessions with students that I counsel.
My Project
I am a Middle School counselor for students in the South Bronx seeking funding for rainbow art paper to use in art therapy groups.
Art is an outlet for feelings for some of my students to use to express feelings and issues that can be challenging for them to express verbally.
I have been working with students with artistic interests to use coloring and drawing to begin conversations. I find that once these students express their feelings visually they are then able to talk more easily about what they drew.
I have also used color to help students identify emotions. Having rainbow scratch paper is a fun way for them to bring out colors to their sketches.
Thank you for valuing the differential counseling sessions that I provide for my artistic students.
