This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students just love to create and explore new art techniques. They really look forward to attending my art class each week. We are a culturally diverse school with students from over 20 different countries represented. We look for creative opportunities. Our school is a place where we turn our mistakes into masterpieces.
Here, we turn our "Mistakes into Masterpieces".
We have a very welcoming atmosphere at this school. As a Title I school we are a low income and high poverty/needs school. Our school is a neighborhood school that is located in a low socioeconomic zone of urban North Carolina. Each child at our school receives free breakfast and lunch through our nutrition program. In addition to breakfast and lunch, they also each also receive a healthy snack of fresh fruits or vegetables each day.
My Project
For this project, I have selected books that I will inspire my students artworks. some of those must have books for art teachers based on publications I have read and suggestions from my peers. I want to infuse my lesson with literature.
These books are sure to awaken and inspire my students creativity.
Books such as, "Tap the magic Tree", which is an interactive book about the changing seasons. They will create compositions depicting how the tree changes as the seasons change. I also chose books to expose them to Japanese works of art and artists such as "Yayoi Kusama: From here to infinity". They will create artwork inspired by her style and learn what drives her to paint dots. Using "The Great Wave: A children's book inspired by Hokusai", students will recreate the famous work of art. I'm excited to select this book, "The girl who heard colors", which is a book that teaches them about the five senses and "synethesia", how one sense stimulates another sense.
I look forward to my students reading these books and experiencing new horizons in their art.
