My students need multicultural markers and other colors in order to create vibrant works of art. My diverse student body will love the multicultural markers to make art that represents each of them.
I am a new art teacher in a school with a very high poverty rate. I have students from different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. While my students have many challenges both at home and in school, they are so eager to learn new things.
Art is a way for my students to channel their creativity and take pride in something they create from design to completion.
I take my job very seriously in that I want my students to love coming to school and get excited when they walk in. I want students to be able to find their own successes by working through a challenging process to create something of their own. Students are able to take ownership of their work and see their true potential. Art class is a break from the rigors of the classroom while still giving students the opportunity to think critically.
My Project
My students need tools that can help them create more personalized artwork. By having access to a pack of multicultural markers in addition to other colors they can create vibrant works of art that they can relate with on a cultural level. I am also asking for a pack of white model magic to create artwork that can be painted later and further our exploration of other cultural arts.
When students create artwork, it is a direct reflection of who they are.
By having multicultural materials they can find colors that represent their skin tones and cultures in ways that the traditional standard of brown and black can't.
