Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I explained "There is an elephant that sprays Non- Objective masterpieces to be sold in the zoo gift shop." Inquisitive the students asked, Where? What does the artwork look like? How much does it cost? A laptop would give students an opportunity to explore a variety of art related topics!

My art students in grades k - 5 are insightful, enthusiastic and inquisitive about art and artists!

They are diverse in their learning styles, life experiences and art abilities. Technology can be used as a tool for inspiring art production, art appreciation and exploration! Drew Charter School is an urban school with the majority of our students eligible for free or reduced lunch. Our students with limited cultural arts experiences have opportunities to make connections to the world around them through technology!

My Project

Laptops in the art room will give students access to the Internet to research contemporary and historical artists, interactive art websites; games, digital photos and to participate in virtual tours of art museums and galleries around the world. Students can use the laptops to create their own computer art and graphic designs for exhibitions and performances and assist in documenting information and class activities. Laptops will also be useful in creating and maintaining a web art gallery to share their artwork with other web classmates around the world. Additionally, we can use laptop as a center for students who finish a project way ahead of the rest of the class or as a reward for students who exceed the behavior and work expectations. Students can use the printer to print out computer generated artwork. We can also use the scanner to create digital images from original artworks for exhibitions, school newsletters, slide show presentations and develop a web art gallery.

Laptops will allow students to participate in virtual tours of art museums and galleries around the world, research contemporary and historical artists and artwork, view and create video presentations about art, access interactive art software, develop a web art gallery and share their artwork with other web classmates around the world.

A printer will give us an opportunity to print computer generated art work and graphic designs. We look forward to exploring the many possibilities!
