My students need basic supplies such as art paper, glue, markers, paints and a variety of mediums and products that will fulfill the needs for a variety of art lessons.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have the pleasure to work with a diverse group of middle school students. They are very eager to learn everything there is to know about art. Although some students initially have some apprehension, once they become comfortable in learning about art, and how to use it as a form of expression for their personal experiences, the level of enthusiasm begins to soar.
The arts are very essential to every student.
Not only are they able to engage in fun and exciting lessons, but they have the opportunity to start with knowledge that they already know from their core subjects and integrate it into art. The challenge with art is that it is often under funded. I want to expose my students to everything that I know about art, but financial support is definitely needed. I have had to ask for donations from outside sources and when that hasn't happened, I then have had to use my own personal money.
My Project
The desired materials I am seeking for my classroom will allow my students to actively engage in various visual art lessons by engaging in multiple hands-on activities using a variety of resources. Outlined lessons will include drawing, painting, sculpture, and art history to name a few.
The art materials for our classroom will allow the students to make a variety of products.
This coming year there will be an emphasis on painting using different paints such as pastels, watercolors and tempera paints. Also, students will create three dimensional forms that mimic specific styles of modern artistic styles. The students will have the opportunity to create great products with their materials, and processes will help them to have a greater appreciation for visual arts. They will explore the history of art, as well as the personal life stories of famous artists. They will research and become familiar with the contributions of many multicultural groups and how artifacts have a direct connection to their daily lives.
In addition, it is the intentions that their engagement in art lessons connected to core content areas will contribute to increased academic performance on general and standardized testing. They will have the opportunity to be explorative and produce creative products that allow them to use their personal experiences as their source of motivation.
