My students need easy to carve printing blocks and tools, colored sand, nature print paper, and paper mache boxes to make special projects reflecting on change and hope.
Do you remember the first time you realized you can make an impact on the world? I would love to do some really special projects with my 4th - 6th grade art students to get them thinking about and planning for how they can make and be the changes they wish to see in the world.
My students come from families and homes where many of them don't have access to even the simplest of art supplies.
My students are full of ambition, kindness, and creativity. They love learning about art from across time and cultures and using that art to inspire meaning in their own work. Special art supplies like these will be so exciting for them to use. I can't wait to share my ideas for projects with them. They always amaze me with how seriously they take their work, coming up with concepts that are meaningful and creative. Then once it's time to start bringing these works to life, their excitement is contagious.
I am requesting these specific art supplies for my students. We will study sand paintings from around the world and different cultures and create our own version in order to inspire change. We will look at yarn paintings from Mexican artists and study how art can be a tool for communication. My students will create a yarn painting on their paper mache box that will communicate a personal message or meaning. We will create block prints that are meant to spread positivity. We will turn them into trading cards that students will leave around school and in other surprising places to spread positivity. Finally we will incorporate nature print photographs into a larger project that will show how we as humans are connected to nature and the world around us.
I am so excited to get these resources to share these projects with my students.
My regular art budget doesn't allow for much more than the basics. My students will be thrilled to have these "special" supplies to create such meaningful work. These are the types of projects that students hold onto. The projects that when they go on to college they will find and remember all of the hopes and dreams they had when they younger, and reflect on what they can start doing to make them a reality.Read More
