Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Learning through play is what my students do every day, and I feel privileged that I get to be a part of their TK and Kindergarten experience.
My students are fun-loving little bundles of energy!
They come to school ready to learn with bright shining smiles on their little faces. In addition to working hard to learn their letters, numbers, and other concepts, they are learning social skills that will help them in Transitional Kindergarten and beyond.
My students come from all walks of life, from low-income families on free/reduced price lunch to middle/upper-middle-class families. Our school is a suburban California Distinguished School and has been open for sixteen years. Most students walk, drive, or bike to school from their houses or apartments. They are a socioeconomically and ethnically diverse group of students who are eager to learn and meet the challenges that we place before them.
My Project
Almost every day, my students create beautiful pieces of art. We need new paint brushes to replace our brushes that are falling apart! In addition to new brushes, we need a drying rack. Most of the art that the students create have lots of glitter, glue and/or paint, and they require hours of drying time. Right now, valuable counter space is used to house the projects while they dry. Unfortunately, the classroom counters have multiple uses throughout the day, so sometimes the students' creations get stuck together, smudged, smeared, or touched by curious hands. Sometimes they even get stuck to the counter because the little ones LOVE using liquid glue and glitter glue! Having an art drying rack will keep all of the masterpieces in a safe place so that they can dry without being disturbed.
