I teach kindergarten students in a poverty-stricken area. My students are very sweet and eager to learn, but many of them entered kindergarten performing below the entrance benchmark. They are a very energetic, active group. With that being said, they are a group that truly appreciates all of the little things. They thoroughly enjoy learning and every opportunity they are given.
The class is made up of 28 students, including several students with special needs, including ADHD and autism.
Many of the students are very active and energetic!
My Project
My students love to draw and create different types of things. At recess time, many of them carry notebooks and pencils outside to draw and write during recess.
My students say that any time they get to draw or create things is their favorite part of the day.
With 28 students in the classroom, my supplies that I have for the students are quickly diminishing. I believe that allowing them time for creativity is highly beneficial to them. Many of them are learning to read and write through playing with paper, pencils, and markers.
Help me be able to provide my students more engaging opportunities in the classroom.
