The cost of these Art Supplies for Kindergarten is $291, including shipping and <a target="new" href="http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm" onclick="g_openWindow('http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm', 300, 800, 'fulfillwindow');return false;">fulfillment</a>.
I am a kindergarten teacher at Walker Gamble Elementary in New Zion, SC. We have 25 students in our class who love the art center. Twenty-five five-year-olds can go thorough a lot of supplies very quickly. We would like to stock our art center for a fun-filled year.
Our first request is for play dough! The play dough would be used in the art center and in various projects. The children would be able to use the dough with alphabet cutters to practice making and recognizing the letter of the week. Many children learn better when they use their sense of touch. The play dough would provide sensory stimulation that would help them remember the way the letters felt as they were shaping them. This play dough letter making would be one of the first steps towards reading.
Painting is also a huge favorite in the art center. We would like to have 5 Do-A-Dot Art painter sets. These work well because the children do not have to use cups or brushes. They can use the paint just like a marker. They would be able to create pictures daily in the art center. Creating a masterpiece and having it displayed on the wall gives the children a great sense of pride. Also, we have discovered knob sponge painters. What a great idea for kindergarten! The children will use the knob sponges to create wonderful projects for any season. Learning the four seasons is one of our state standards and these knob painters would help the children satisfy this goal.
We would like to complete our art center supplies with animal-track slip-ons. The children will strap the foam and plastic pads onto their feet or hands and create animal tracks. These animal tracks would help the children recognize the different tracks made by ostriches, alligators, kangaroos, and gorillas. Each year we complete a unit on Australia and we discuss the difference between kangaroos and wallabies. The kangaroo prints would be an excellent addition to this unit of study. The children could measure their feet and compare them to the tracks of the kangaroos. This activitiy would incorportae both math and science skills.
Thanks for reading and considering my proposal.
