Kindergarten and First Grade is always a very busy and exciting place. Students can't wait to come each day and learn by experiencing new and fun activities.
I teach Kindergarten and First Grade in a small rural community.
Our school has just under 300 students. This year I have 19 students. We are Title 1 school with the majority of the students on free and reduced-price lunch. Funds are limited for teachers to purchase learning materials for students and often art is only a second thought.
My Project
My school does not have an art teacher so any art the kids are exposed to is up to their teacher. I want my kids to view beautiful art and get to explore the different mediums for themselves.
Art is all around us and can inspire.
We tie art into other subjects, like using shapes from math to build models of the playground or music to inspire paintings. We have followed in the footsteps of Frida Kahlo and Vincent van Gogh creating self-portraits to brighten the walls of our classroom.
We have been creating up a storm and need to replenish our supplies. We need watercolor paper (this makes water-coloring even more fun as the colors appear brighter, more white and purple acrylics paint (our school colors, wire for Galimoto creations (Galimoto — a toy made of wires and other recycled things) and paint trays to help us mix colors.
Please help bring new art supplies to my classroom!
