I teach Kindergarten children at P.S.93 in the Bronx. We are depleting our Art supplies (which I have purchased on my own). The children draw, paint, and color in response to literature. They write in journals but always draw a picture first.
I am out of pencils, tempera paint in all colors, drawing and construction paper, crayons, colored pencils, etc. I do not have an easel for the children to use when they paint. I also use many craft supplies for the children to make things. We have made dream catchers out of paper plates, ribbon and feathers. We have made spring baskets out of milk containers covered with craft paper and decorative buttons. We use pipe cleaners for many things.
An art activity in response to any lesson I teach reinforces the lesson and makes it fun for the children. Since they are only 5 and 6 years old, and have learned to read and write this year, they are like little sponges absorbing everything. Unfortunately, their art supplies have run out and I need some help. I have spent a lot of my own funds and need assistance.
These children have difficult home lives: parents incarcerated, in drug rehab, or deceased. They are joyful and love to learn. I thank anyone who can help.
