Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are creative and eager to learn 6th and 7th graders from a low-income, high-poverty neighborhood. Many of them live in single family homes, or with relatives other than their immediate family, in foster care or shelters. They receive free breakfast and lunch because of their socioeconomic status.
Despite these challenges, they come to school excited to learn and full of positive energy.
They are sweet and caring kids who love to express themselves. I try my best to provide a safe space for them to grow, and expose them to as much art as possible. Our school has a family like feel and the kids love to stay in the building as long as possible.
My Project
My students do not get much experience with art and they deserve art in their lives. Art club and Theater class will help them build their creativity and expand their minds. In art club my students will make their very own patterned paper, learn how to use watercolor paint, create textured rubbings, melt crayons into projects and do many other fun activities! In Theater class they will create their very own journals so that they have a space to reflect and explore their feelings. Both of these classes are a great chance for them to express themselves and have fun! Please help my students attain the art supplies they need!
