Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Teach the children well and let them lead the way," this line is from Greatest Love of All, by Michael Masser and Linda Creed. And I firmly believe what the song says. We must teach the children well as they are the future of this country and we will need to depend on them to lead the way into a bright future.
My students come from very diverse backgrounds.
They also have diverse ability levels. We are in a large school district that has been severely hit by budget cuts. We have very few supplies and there is definitely no money to be spent on "extras". My class is full of curious students who love to learn through hands-on lessons. They are bright and enjoy learning. They need exposure to lessons that cannot be taught using just the materials supplied by our district. My students are working so hard to do well during this time of distance learning. They love our weekly art lessons and are gifted artists.
My Project
I want to get my students some basic art supplies because they love our weekly art lessons and are creative, gifted artists! I am asking for markers, oil pastels, scissors, watercolors, and a plastic bin to keep it all in.
The students will use these materials to do their art lessons which is one of the highlights of the week for many of them.
Right now they only have crayons and colored pencils. These materials would allow them to do a wider variety of art lessons using different mediums. Life is difficult these days. Online learning is difficult. My students really enjoy art and it is a time where they can let loose, be creative, and relieve some stress.
