Help me give my students the paintbrushes and art supplies they need to continue creating!
My students love art! They have been creating all year long - drawing and painting, learning how to make secondary and tertiary colors from the primary colors, learning how to make different shades and values of colors, and learning important art concepts such as line, form, and shape. They also enjoyed studying famous artists such as Frederic Remington and Georgia O'Keefe.
All year long, my students have been curious and are always asking what our next art project is going to be!
They have expressed over and over how much they have appreciated art this year and that they've done more art this year than any other year in elementary school. I teach at a TK-5 elementary school in North San Diego County. The majority of our students are growing up in impoverished families. They don't have the opportunities that other children may have, so art is especially exciting for them!
The students in my classroom are engaged in an art project at all times. They start the year learning how to take the primary colors and create secondary and tertiary colors. Then they expand their understanding by learning about color value and shading. They learn basic art concepts such as line, shape, and form. They also study art appreciation and learn about famous artists such as Frederic Remington and Georgia O'Keefe. Therefore, art supplies are in constant demand!
Our school does not have an art teacher, but I have embraced teaching this important subject!
Students need to use both sides of their brain, the left for science and math, and the right for the arts and creativity! "The arts and sciences have a primary claim to the encouragement of every lover of his country and mankind." - George Washington
