At DGES, the amazing school where I teach, I have 26 fifth graders who live in a remote area. There is one area in which our class could use a little help; we need a few art supplies to make our learning more engaging and colorful.
My students love art and I wanted to encourage them by getting art supplies.
DGES's students are in third through fifth grade.
The school is Title I with forty percent English language learners. My students could benefit from having resources that promote creativity.
The students in our room decided that art supplies would improve the quality of their work. My school had an amazing art teacher. She taught art and art history for over 15 years in our district unfortunately because of budget cuts this art teacher was let go. To keep the love of art alive, my class selected a few supplies they would like to have in our classroom.
Our class really loves visual and performing arts so pen, pencil sharpeners, a microphone and a way to play music would be helpful to promote student engagement and art projects.
A few ways we will use our art supplies in class are during Readers' Theater a microphone would help project the student voices. Another way my students will use our supplies is by illustrating our history projects. And our new whiteboard markers would be used to improve a math lesson. I hope to reach students who love art and integrate art into our core curriculum.
