Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
School is a haven for my students. It's a place where regular routines and caring adults help them to learn and grow up to live new and promising lives--to become productive citizens of the future.
In our art room, we want to show them that education can help break the cycle of poverty and that education can be engaging.
When students are engaged they come to school eager to learn. The excitement of learning helps keep them coming to school when it gets hard.
To create an engaging learning environment for my students I need to provide a wide variety of art supplies and technology. Art class can support many different kinds of learning. It's a place where all types of learners can shine and feel accomplished. With your help, I can provide these students with art experiences that will help them grow their creative problem-solving skills.
My Project
My art room serves 800 art projects a week; to support so many projects, we need huge quantities of paper and paint. Students use these basic art materials to express their ideas and emotions in a safe constructive way.
Students who build with cardboard develop skill with 3D modeling as well as learning that school can offer fun and engaging learning experiences.
The tools that support cardboard sculpture must be sturdy and safe to use. The canary cutters make it easy to cut cardboard into a variety of shapes without cutting small fingers. The EMT scissors are powerful enough to cut cardboard safely. Students who work with these materials to build 3D sculptures engage with their work and learn how to regulate their behaviors.
By providing a variety of art supplies students with special needs, with language differences, and with behavior challenges, learn how to engage with learning in an exciting engaging way.
