Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a teacher of wonderfully diverse first-grade students, many of whom are English Language Learners, I am striving to give each of them learning experiences as exciting and unique as they are!

My students' learning styles and needs are as diverse as their backgrounds and cultures.

Variety and differentiation is key. Some are beginning readers, who are still learning their letters and letter sounds. Others are reading at a third grade level and beyond. The majority of my students enjoy math and science, and nearly all of them love to engage in tactile, kinesthetic, hands-on learning! Playing with magnetic blocks and painting are two classroom favorites!

Additionally, they absolutely love reading and playing math and ELA games on the computer (big surprise)! Currently, I do not have headphones, so one can only imagine the cacophony--some students using the "read to me" option while others are navigating magical worlds and battling monsters by solving math equations or identifying parts of speech. Whew!

During indoor play times, rainy day recesses, and/or simply when the day calls for a change of gears, I like to come through with a variety of creative, engaging, and stimulating games, activities, outlets, and challenges--some geared toward individual play, and others toward teamwork! I also keep a fully-stocked bin of desirable prizes for our raffles. Whenever students are "caught" being kind or helpful or on task, they receive Pride Paws, which I frequently pull from a jar at random.

My students love coming to school, and they thirst for new and exciting learning experiences! I hope you will help me continue to meet and exceed their expectations!
