My students are amazing. They loved to come to school and collaborate with their friends. Right now during this pandemic they are extremely sad they cannot come to school. The sense of community in our classroom was palpable at any moment. Nowadays, during our virtual conference it takes my breath away to see the kids' faces brighten up with joy when they see me and their friends. I wish them well with all my heart and soul.
As we embrace online learning, I have noticed from the pictures some students sent me that they need hands-on materials at home.
I would like to deliver to their porch care packages to each of my students. I want to provide them with materials that would facilitate creative engagement.
It has been a joy to see their development throughout this school year. Now, as I see them on the screen and through pictures and videos the families send me, I would like to see their creativity flourish. They deserve every opportunity in this world.
All of my students need art supplies for creative activities. However, some families cannot afford all the resources for education. Every student needs opportunities and resources to be successful in life; and I must ensure that all of my students have the necessary tools. My students work on lessons projects I post at home. Last week, they needed to create insects using nature items. Some made a rock come to life by painting it like a bee or a ladybug. Others drew on lined paper, but without colors. Every week my students engage in bringing the lessons to life by creating an art response. This project will enhance their learning possibilities.
In short, equity matters in education.
Having basic supplies at home will guarantee that students will continue learning at home in time of quarantine. Pablo Picasso says every child is an artist; the problem is to remain an artist once they grow up. Let's encourage students' creativity.
