This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students come from low-income, inner-city homes. We are a Title I school, and 92% of the students receive free or reduced rates for textbooks and meals. Two-thirds of our students arrive at school by bus. They do not have many extras at home - not even a car to get to and from school when there is an emergency.
My students are sweet, respectful, responsible, happy and curious students who love to explore the endless possibilities in our classrooms.
My students come to school daily ready to learn.
My Project
My students are in need of a carpet to gather on at the start of art class. I have been using carpet squares for the past year for my students to sit on when they come into art class. The carpet squares tend to move around a lot. My student's trip of the edges and the carpet squares are hard to sweep.
My students have requested a new seating area for all.
I have chosen a carpet with the paint pallet in the center. My students will enjoy sitting on the new carpet to read or learn about the different art techniques that are being presented to them.
