This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students

Fostering a love of art in each of my students is my goal as an art teacher, by encouraging students to explore the world around them through images and reading.
While I have not yet met my students, they come from one of the most challenging areas in Chicago and they are capable of so much. I am working towards building a strong visual arts program that will give students exposure to a variety of artists, materials, field trips and experiences, while also bridging a connection to the community. Building this program will give students access to more well rounded education, as well as skills that will help them be college and career ready.
My Project
A classroom library will serve students in multiple ways. Students in K-2 will use Read-Alouds as a basis for learning about the elements of art (shapes, line, color, etc.) and social/emotional learning. Students in the 3-8 will use books as references and inspiration. Students will also be free to check out books to take home.
Donations to this project will help to promote literacy for my students. They will have access to books specific to art and artists, which continues to expose students to the art in the world around them. Through the books in the classroom library students will be improving their visual literacy, as well as their reading skills.
