Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My amazing students are in grades 6, 7, and 8. We are a Title I School with a newcomer program serving many refugees, immigrants, and English learners. Student abilities are diverse and lend to lots of creative ways of presenting information so all students have an avenue to access the art experience.
Many of my students have NEVER had a chance to take an art class in school and this is their first exposure to the amazing world of art!
The students are eager and very interested in trying and learning as much as they can about different artists, mediums, and techniques. The biggest ask is usually to help learn how to draw something and to be able to paint.
My Project
My students are creators! Every day they are producing custom artwork like a factory and they need the materials to do so. Basics are needed like markers, colored pencils, glue, sharpies, and more so they can accomplish all their minds are set to create.
Students will use the materials to meet the Visual Arts Standards in exploring the different Elements of Art by bringing ideas through to completion.
The students will be creating artwork such as self portraits, optical illusions, completing color theory worksheets (colored pencils and markers galore!!!), and even adding color to expressive line and comic strips, along with many other exercises and technique explorations!
