This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from many different cultural backgrounds, and most are living in low income households. They are eager learners with high spirits and love the arts. Many kids have several siblings, cousins and grandparents that reside in the same home.
I teach kindergarten, second, fourth and seventh graders.
Each grade level has its own needs and topics to be covered for students to progress and move on to the next grade level. Our district does not have a large budget at all. Usually we receive enough funding to purchase some crayons and markers and a small amount of paper. Our kids go through these supplies quickly, and we often rely on donations and local organizations to help us meet their needs.
With your help, it is my hope that their art classroom can be filled with new materials for them to explore, exciting supplies and images to look at, and wonderful experiences that will make an impression on them. This is their only chance to establish a love for art, as it is no longer mandatory after they leave elementary school. Help spread the love!
My Project
We need some visual resources in my classroom. I have selected several sets of posters students can see daily on display in the classroom. Artist prints, prints from different art periods, and color wheels are important for exposure. The color wheels will be used by several grade levels to help them improve their painting and color theory knowledge. It is important that students understand how to manipulate colors before they get to high school where projects become much more complex.
The walls of my room are blank and we desperately need enrichment items to add life to the walls of the art room.
These poster sets and materials will be beyond beneficial to my students and the overall climate of the art classroom.
