Do you remember bringing home your art projects, excited to share your work, and then they go into the basket of papers never to be seen again? Students are proud of their hard work and deserve an interesting way to display their work that they will keep and look back at for years to come.
My class is composed of a diverse group of students that each display an interest in learning and a passion for art.
My 5th grade students in California enjoy hands on projects, learning with technology, and creating projects that are high interest and meaningful. Art is a subject that all students can participate in and all students love. My students have a range of learning abilities and needs, but when the students see Art on the daily schedule in class they come to life and the students give their best effort in completing and understanding assignments despite any limitations. When you incorporate art, technology and a yearlong project students become engaged and excited to do their best work. With the help of Disneyland's CREATE grant, I would like to provide the materials for the class to create art portfolios that will display their digital art in additional to their traditional art pieces in a way that can last a lifetime.
My Project
My students will work on several art projects this year that incorporate the 5th grade art standards. Our school is focusing on incorporating technology into the art lessons in addition to our traditional lessons. My students will learn to manipulate digital images online that they have taken with our classroom digital cameras. The students will then print their images in color for their 5th grade art portfolio. I plan to implement my lesson after the New Year in February of 2013.
IÃÂÃÂÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂm requesting a color printer so that my students can print their digital art work in color for their portfolio and scan documents as needed. I am requesting color marks to decorate their art portfolios.
My project is supported by the California VAPA standard 2.0 Creative Expression, which involves creating, performing, and participating in the visual arts. It is also support by standard 2.3, in which the students will demonstrate beginning skill in the manipulation of digital imagery.
Creating a lasting memory and resources for our students is critical in the education process.
Students learn about life skills through art and they also acquire problem solving skills, flexibility, patience, and determination to just name few traits students develop through the art process. With this art portfolio students will walk away with a project that they can use as a reference tool, a project that has taught them life lessons, and a sense of pride in their hard work.
